BASC Named one of the Top Surgical Centers in the United States by Newsweek
BASC was the only surgical center recognized in New Hampshire
October 27, 2022, Bedford, NH – BASC, the Bedford Ambulatory Surgical Center has been listed by Newsweek in the top 500 Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASCs) in the United States. BASC was also the only surgical center in New Hampshire to make the list. The rankings, compiled in collaboration with market research firm Statista, are based on a survey of more than 4,000 medical professionals along with analysis of performance data from more than 5,000 ASCs.
“To be named one of the top ASC’s in the country and the only one in New Hampshire is an honor and a testimony to our dedication and our caring doctors, nurses and staff,” stated BASC founder Nick Vailas. “This is truly an honor to be recognized for excellence on this level.”
BASC was launched by former New Hampshire Health and Human Services Commissioner Nick Vailas, with the mission of providing patients better access to quality care and providing surgeons the ability to deliver more personal care. It was the first multi-specialty ASC in New Hampshire. The cost to the patient is also much lower than what it would be if they had the same exact procedure performed at a hospital.
“For less invasive procedures, it’s a safer, more cost-effective way of managing outcomes,” stated Vailas. “We are all about transparency in what our costs will be for the patient.”
BASC is celebrating its 30th anniversary. It started with six surgeons, today 40 doctors work regularly out of BASC performing 13-thousand procedures annually ranging from colonoscopies and endoscopies, cataract removal, imaging and orthopedics including total hip, knee and shoulder replacement.
“It was a new concept, but we saw a great need in our community,” stated Vailas. “When we launched 30 years ago, arthroscopy was changing orthopedic surgery and the technology had evolved for less invasive procedures that could have life-changing ramifications. Think about how a hip replacement surgery, which can be performed on an outpatient basis, can dramatically improve a patient’s quality of life. Having the procedure performed at our ASC rather than a hospital is a much more affordable option.”
