LOW DOSE CT SCAN (LDCT)

CT Scan or CAT Scan

A CT scan is a FAST and PAINLESS exam that uses special x-ray equipment to create detailed images of internal organs, bones, soft tissues and blood vessels.

Medical professional are able to view the images one by one or collectively as a three-dimensional (3-D) pictures of areas inside the body.  A dye called “contrast” may be given as an IV Injection or swallowed as a drink which will help the tissues and organs show up more clearly.  CT Scans may be used to help diagnose disease, plan treatment or for pre-surgical planning.

Low-dose CT scan provides quality images that help detect small abnormalities using 90% less radiation than a standard CT scan.

CT scan is painless and non-invasive, and the radiation doesn’t remain in the body afterwards.

What to expect during a CT Scan

Typical exams take 10-15 minutes. BASC Imaging has a low dose multi-slice CT scanner which enhances the image quality while reducing x-ray dose.

During a CT scan, you will lie on a table that will move through a doughnut-shaped tube. The tube will move around the area of your body to be scanned, collecting images from a variety of angles. You’ll be able to see out of both ends of the scanner.

The technician will ask you to relax and lie as still as possible, and may ask you to hold your breath for brief moments.

Sometimes, Iodine contrast will be administered to the patient intravenously, or orally, to make irregularities more clear to the tech and radiologist.

How will I prepare for a CT Scan?

For a better look at other areas, an intravenous (IV) contrast will be used.

If your provider orders IV contrast, do not eat or drink for 4 hours before exam.

During an IV contrast scan, you may feel a warm sensation throughout your body. Drink plenty of fluids afterward so the contrast can flush out.

No preparation is necessary for a study of your Spine, Bones, Joints, Sinuses, or Kidney Stone studies.

Benefits of BASC Imaging’s Multi-Slice CT Scan:
